Seattle Seahawks Star Marshawn Lynch’s DUI Trial Reset For December

On the heels of the NFL announcing that Jaguars’ Wide Receiver Justin Blackmon will be suspended for the rest of the season for Substance Abuse, Marshawn Lynch sees his California DUI trial continued until December 27. Lynch was arrested on July 14, 2012 for driving under the influence in Oakland on Interstate 880. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was recently denied a motion to suppress evidence and have the case dismissed. According to his attorney, Ivan Golde, he will be asking to continue the trial until the 2013-2014 NFL season has come to a close.

The NFL is no stranger to players being arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. In addition to Blackmon and Lynch, San Francisco 49ers pass rusher Aldon Smith was recently arrested for DUI in San Jose. Tragically, last year came to a conclusion with the drunk-driving crash of Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent that killed a fellow teammate. Brent was charged with intoxication manslaughter in the State of Texas and faces up to 20 years.

Drunk driving is a serious offense that affects people of every race, gender and economic position. The number of NFL players arrested for DUI may seem shocking at first, but only in light of the fact that the DUI arrests are made so public. As with actors and public figures, it is constantly broadcasted on the Internet, TV and print media. You may be surprised at the number of people in your office and even in your family that have been arrested for driving under the influence. You can learn more about Lynch’s case here and here.
