DUI in San Bernardino County?
If you’ve been arrested for DUI in San Bernardino County you will most likely be required to appear in one of the following courts, downtown San Bernardino (my personal favorite court), Rancho Cucamonga, Victorville, Joshua Tree or Barstow (Barstow will be closing soon). Unlike Los Algeles County, if you are convicted of a first offense DUI in San Bernardino County you will not be required to install an ignition interlock device (That’s good news as it is expensive and embarrassing to have to put such a device in your car).
Downtown San Bernardino takes all the cases from Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead. Big Bear had a court but that was closed a few years ago. San Bernardino, downtown happens to be the best courthouse right now because of the volume of cases they have. It is just too much for inexperienced DA’s to handle and they usually have an experienced DA that can make decisions to reduce cases and lower sentences without having to go through supervisors. This saves everyone time and allows the court to function. This same scenario helps my clients to get better deals.
Rancho Cucamongo and Victorville can be more difficult cases because of the “red tape” that you must go through to get “deals”. Often the DA’s in the pretrial rooms can not offer you anything lower than a DUI which requires DUI defense lawyers to go through the supervisors. This often takes time and creates a situation where the supervisor doesn’t want to give a DUI defense attorney a deal because they are “training” the newer attorneys.
